Hi,

I'm looking for a pair of speakers to use as surrounds, with my newly buyed Denon 2308.
I am currently using as front speakers a 4 way, 16" woofers Pioneer CS-703 (from 1981), with 100w nom. 200w max, and 8 ohms impedance.
There's in my town a pair of old B&W 2001 speakers, with an impedance of 4 ohms, for U$S 300 (I live in Uruguay, and here, any speaker cost the DOUBLE than in USA or Europe, take this in count).

Does these speakers worth this price? (something like 150 in USA), and most important: Is OK to connect 8 and 4 ohms speakers to a receiver? I know that the B&W will need to set at a lower volume lever, but this is enought? and most of all, the Denon could be damaged?

Also, if anybody have an opinion about the B&W 2001, or any info (I don't know the manufacturing year), will be welcomed!

thanks

Your Denon is only rated to 6-ohms. It will drive the 4-ohm load, but may run hotter than designed for depending on the volume you listen at.

When you connect the speakers, get an SPL Meter and level match the speakers using the receiver. The manual will tell you how to adjust the levels. The speakers will have different sensitivities and therefore will have to be adjusted to match. My guess will be that the B&Ws will actually need to be given MORE volume/power than the Pioneers, because the large Pioneers are probably more sensitive.

Overall you should be fine though. :)
