Hello,
I'm new and yes, I have a question. A few actually, and I really hope you guys could help me out.
A few days back I bought a pair of beovox M100-2 (type 6319)
I seriously loved the bass when I listened to them at the sellers house with my own receiver/amplifier. They generally sounded good and I thought what the hell, lets go get them.
Before these I had the following setup:
My Onkyo A-5VL (fed lossless music over an optic cable) with a pair of beovox 3702's. These had had a full refoam before I got them and they sounded pretty descent. They weren't perfect, they seriously missed a lot of bass but I still loved their sound. They could give me chills and lots of listening pleasure when I really sat down for it.
Later on I added two 1702's on the other side of my room near my desk (which is 3x6 meters) which made me enjoy my music too at my desk.
The 1702's blended in perfectly and for me it was the perfect setup (since I'm a student I don't have thát much money on spare) was it not for the bass. I seriously weighed getting a sub but since I wasn't completely happy with the mids I started looking for the beovox M100, since that was at the time a very descent monitor.
When I just had them installed I thought the sound was quite alright, but when I switched to the 1702's the sound was so much brighter and clearer and when I switched back again to the M100's they sounded seriously dull. Like they're covered by a pillow. Though a tone-sweep sounds very consistent.
The filler drivers (or well, second driver from below) have serious foam rot, not enough for them to fall apart just yet but the first tears are coming through. The new foams are ordered.
Somewhere I hope that refoaming the fillers will 'magically' rid the dullness of the speakers but I'm afraid that won't be the case.
My second problem is that I have no idea how to take the filler driver out for the refoaming. The wires just have so little slack that I barely can look behind it, and accessing the speaker from around the back isn't possible since where they are lying (on a lowered ceiling. my room is pretty packed) there is no way to get behind them.
Which brings me to the crossover. I've looked behind the 12" woofer and realised the crossover panel can only be taken out from the back. I've read quite a bit and who knows replacing the caps on the crossover might brighten them up too, however I have no idea which caps to use or what else I should keep in mind.
I thank everyone who took the time to finish this (probably not that clear) post and I thank anyone in advance for some advice on these matters.
Jelle
