I have a Pioneer 815 on order (should be here in the next day or so). I am upgrading from a JVC DVD/HTIB system that gasped its final breath over the weekend. When I ordered the 815 I was thinking I could use the JVC speakers that came with the system 6 ohm rated max 35w. Upone further review, I believe I might need to step up to new speakers as well (oh darn the luck). I am looking at a BIC DV52CLRB for $89 for the center, a BIC DV52 SI for $99 for my fronts and the BIC DV3's for the rear. Debating on using the sub that came with the system for a bit to see how it goes (60W max). As a complete newbie to this, I am wondering how this setup sounds? Budget at this point is fairly tight, within the confines of what I have listed. I also wonder if it would be better to order the front three speakers first and slowly build from there? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would highly recommend that you opt for the DV62SI speakers. They have a better tweeter (3/4" vs 1/2") and a larger woofer, allowing for more bass response. And believe me, they have bass. You can get the DV62SIs for $124.49 a pair, shipped, from X-10.com. I would say go for the 62s as surrounds as well. The DV62CLR would be the logical center channel for these speakers and that runs $110.49 at X-10.

I would say build your system slowly as your budget allows. Try for the front 3 speakers if you can, but perhaps just the L&R speakers.

What exactly is your budget? You can get the entire DV62 system (4 DV62si, the 62CLR center, and the 1220 subwoof) for about $560 including shipping at some internet stores.

actually that fits nicely in the budget. might have to look into that. however, what do you think the life expectancy of my current speaker setup would have?

My advice to you would be to get the 62 series bookshelves vs the 52 and the DV62clr for the center. They are slightly more expensive but are worth the money! I just recently purchased that center and the DV84 towers. If towers are too large for your taste, the DV62's are a great option. I ordered from Amazon.com which lists products from Dynadirect.com. You place your order through Amazon but it links directly to Dynadirect.com. I have to say the experience was lovely. Free ground shipping and the lowest prices on the internet for BIC.

I strongly recomend going with the 62 series for your mains ( I have both), and center. The 52's are fine for the surrounds. They are all a great value, but it's worth the extra 50-100 to go with the 62's.
