The Axiom M60 7.1 or the Aperion Intimus 533-PT Cinema HD. Heard good reviews about Axiom, but nothing other than a CNET review on the Aperion. Does anyone know much about them???

thanks

There are a couple of reviews of the Aperion speakers in general here. The 533 PT are like the 532PT review here.

It's a start.

I had a chance to hear the 533's at the HES show in NY a couple weeks back. I was pretty suprised by them, in a good way. They were very clear and I was blown away by their imaging. They do not play as low as some would like but I did not find them bland in that area by any means. For film the demo was very involving, anytime I can sit through a demo and be engulfed in what I'm watching, and not be distracted by the speakers themselves, I'd say that's a win.

I have not heard Axioms before and I would be curious if anyone has had a chance to hear both the Aperion's and the Axiom equivalent...I would guess at the M60s.

Anyone?

I purchased a whole Aperion setup a couple of weeks ago including
Aperion 633-T's
Aperion S12 SUB
Aperion In-Wall's
Aperion 634-VAC center

Now, before I purchased them I didn't really 'demo' any other speakers. I was simply going off of price and the internet. Tallahassee isn't an audiophile mecca.

In any case, it started with the S12. I thought it was decent, but the BASS TUBE (port) had dust & dirt in it and I could see this thin foam when I looked in it. Needless to say I sent it back without even hooking it up. (I didn't have my towers yet and I just needed it out of there). I have since upgraded to a JLAudio Fathom F112.

Ok, now on to the 633-T Towers.... They do sound really good, but if I'm going to delve into the 4-figure speaker market (regardless if it's $1k or $3k) I want them at the very least to look 'new'. Well, I've finally got some pics only they're through my Treo700 so I don't know how well they'll show up. I used a Mag-Lite to pinpoint the finish 'issues'. Basically, they look like someone used them as a dip cup, then threw some sawdust on there and if you can look in the back, inside the speaker you can see a different type of foam than the S12 sub... But in general these look worse. The tweeter & woofers on this sucker look new as they should and the finish on the speaker itself is nice in piano black.

I also have the 634VAC center which is nice, looks good, sounds good. And the in-wall's which I really can't hear that well.

I am going to be sending everything back with the arrival of my Wharfedale Opus 2's, and even though I thought the 634VAC was probably the best out of the Aperion lot that I had delivered, I want the center to match... so a Wharfedale Opus Tri-Center is coming. And I figured I'd upgrade the in-wall's as well... I just want this Aperion stuff out of here. They're customer support was decent, they said that they 'quality control 11% of the products that leave the store' but here's my theory. I purchased the sub which was in stock at a different time, like 2 weeks before the 633-T's got here... then my towers were built and delivered and I had the same problem almost ?? Fool me once... blah, blah, blah. Hear what I'm saying ?

So, since the original purchase I've learned a thing or 2. I've had the chance to demo some B&W 805's, some Martin Logan big suckers (in the pic), and even had the pleasure of hearing the famous B&W Nautilus (pic). And some other non-descript, circuitcity/bestbuy klipsch/polk stuff, nothing high end there...

(PLEASE NOTE, THE FIRST 3 PICS ARE OF THE BASS TUBE OF THE 633-T Aperion's... the other 2 were of my venture out to a high-end dealer to demo some speakers of which the Nautilus was there)

My Fathom is still my favorite of the bunch ! I'm bass crazy.

I hope this helps. Don't get me wrong, the stuff sounds good... If you want to go through the customer support route in case you get a 'bad set' like I did then great. I'm sure they will do everything in their power to make sure you're happy. If I had it to do all over again and I had it narrowed down to Axion or Aperion... I'd go Aperion again, because I really didn't like the Axiom stuff when I looked at it. Go figure.

Nick
