Sherwood Newcastle

I've been seeing this brand mentioned on this and other forums, and I'm curous about the name. Sherwood has been a brand that was in the same league as Yorx and Soundesign. I just saw a 7.1 AVR in the latest Best Buy for $129, Back in the '80s they made those cardboard/particleboard "rack" systems that were so popular with people who thought you could get a good system for $250 at Sears. Please tell me that this isn't the same outfit!

It is, but they have different levels of quality. They manufacture, to spec, other companies products. This includes Receivers, DVD players and other audio/video devices.;)

As I recall in the 70's they were somewhere in between Soundesign and Pioneer/ Kenwood.

Yes, but my Soundesign had 8-track, and a diamond needle on the turntable.:p And, don't forget the chrome dust covers. Moved up to Panasonic Thrusters.:D

I actually used Sherwood separates in the 80's. Smoked the amp. Still have the EQ in the shop with my old Onkyo Pro Logic receiver. Made in Korea stamped on the back of my Sherwood gear.

Sorry, man, didn't mean insult anybody (cough)(LOSER)(cough). In truth, my first stereo was a Mongomery Ward Airline console. Couldn't afford the model with the 8-track. Most of us here came from pretty humble beginnings:cool:

Sherwood America is the line you'll find in the likes of BB. The Newcastle line has received good reviews.
