I have a Denon 4306 and am considering purchasing eith the Axiom M60s or the JBL PT800s. Will the the Denon fully handle the JBL ? Recommened amp power is 50-250. Or would the Axiom be better? Thanks. I need to make up my mind by 6 Feb before Axiom raise their prices.

If you can eat the shipping costs, order the axioms and get them home. I'm not +ve but I believe they have a 30 day trial period where they will refund all your money you if your not satisfied. Use that eval period to listen to them and if you can, to get a hold of the JBLs for a little side to side comaprison.

I've not heard the JBLs so I'm not qualified to give you an opinion. In fact the only JBLs I recall hearing were the L110s back in teh 70s and that was an amazing speaker in its day.

I think that Denon should be more than sufficient. A separate amp certainly wouldn't hurt, but is by no means necessary with either speaker. The JBL's seem pretty effecient with an 8ohm/91db rating. The 4306 is pretty beefy, so it should be fine. The Axioms seem even easier to drive. It will come down to which speaker you like better as both should be well handled by your receiver.

If it were me, I'd at least give the Axioms a shot because you get to try them in your home. I don't know who you're getting the JBL's from, but maybe you could swing having them let you bring them home as well where you could do a side-by-side comparison. If it's worth a sale to them, you should be able to make that happen. If you don't like the Axioms, at least you know you've judged them in your environment and all you're out is shipping (back) and a trip to ups/fedex/usps.

Also, I'm certainly not a fan of judging a speaker by it's posted specs, but it doesn't seem like you're getting a lot for your money with those JBL's...the posted specs show a freq. response of 80hz-22kz at -6db (not the usual or preferred +/- 3 db). Must be their enclosure (if I read correctly, it's only 6" deep), but the cutoff being at 80hz with 8" drivers seems odd to me. You'd definitely need a sub. Just my opinion. Good luck!:D

A slight correction to this would be shipping is free "to you", it is not free "back to them". It is free both ways with aperion and htd.

I haven't heard the JBL's so I can't offer a comparison, but I have the Axiom M60's and love them. Highly recommended.

Thanks All

I'm going to go with 4 ea M60 , 2 ea QS8, 1 ea VP 150, and the EP 500 sub. I'm hoping that will cover the sound stage both for music listening and theater. Any last idea? $3700 is all I get approved by the Lady in Charge. I'm still trying to squeeze in the Denon 3910. I might be pushing my luck. :)

Wow! That's a helluva set up right out of the gate. Plus, if you get the 3910 approved by "the CFO" that'll be one killer set up. Color me green with envy.
