Can the Axiom M80ti's be safely connected to a yamaha rx-v1500? The speakers are 4 ohm, yet the receiver is 6/8 Ohm. Or is the yamaha rating for both the left right channels together?

If it is only those two, may be OK in general. If more speakers than those are 4 Ohm, might be a problem. The rating is for each channel. Options: step down to the M60s or get an amp for the 80s.

Receiver power

The size of your room, listening position, max SPL level, and receiver ventallation will also factor into the receiver's performance with 4-ohm speakers. The Axiom's are pretty efficient speakers so that will lessen the power requirments of the amplifier.
