Axiom M22ti or M50ti

I am putting together a HT in an 12x18x8 room. I am trying to decide between the two speakers in the title. The M22's would be on stands so the price difference is only $80. Are the M50's overkill in a room this size? Would there be a difference in sound quality between the two? I have decided to try the Axiom's from reading this forum, reviews and the 30 day trial. I have not decided on a reciever yet either, so perhaps someone who has these speakers can comment on a reciever choice.

Just opened up the M22ti a few hours ago, so I cannot do much more than comment on the "out-of-the-box": They look fantastic. I got the cherry finish, and the wife loves them (I hope).

My guess is for that space the 22s should be just fine, and with the prices being so close it probably comes down to an asthetic choice. The M50s might visually over-power the room, but that is not why you are buying them :)

I would love to hear a receiver choice from someone. I have an old Pioneer VSX-710S (100W x 5), and am looking to use the new speakers as an excuse to upgrade.

Why Not Ask 'Em?

From what I hear Axiom folks are totally supportive and will give you the straight scoop. Why not call or email 'em and ask for a recommendation?

We have run the M22's in a 27x24 foot room, and as long as you are planning on a subwoofer, they are a fantastic speaker. If you are looking for full range, grab the 50's.

I would go with the M22's crossed over at 80Hz and add an EP500 or two  You will achieve better midrange performance out of the M22's.

I listened to a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7's today. I really liked them. I am not sure that I would buy speakers online, even if they do have a 30 day audition. I am also looking at the Onix Rockets and Swans. Is there anyone who has heard the M7's and one of these other speakers? It would likely be 90/10 HT/Music. Also, what about the M22's gives them better midrange? Is it the smaller drivers or the smaller enclosure?

The M60's and M80s are a more dynamic sounding speaker than the M22's. The M60 is definately a good tower speaker and the M80 builds on it further by increasing output power handling, SPL capabilities, and a bit larger soundstage but a little more difficult load to drive than the M22 or M60s.

Budget $$$

Do you have a budget in mind? Are you interested in bookshelf or floorstanders? There are many different configuration options. Which type of surround is feasible in your environment: monopole, bipole, or dipole?

In case you are unaware, it is recommended that the main speakers be of the same brand and line, but the subwoofer can differ.

The Monitor line from Paradigm are excellent. They would fit nicely with any of the receiver or separates that were reco'd in your other thread.

Evidently you have started to shop around in your area, which is good. Take the time needed for good research. Look in the yellow pages for audio shops and call them to find out which brands they sell and demo. In the end, you will be happy with the decision you make.

If you find something you may be interested in, check out the consumer reviews to see what others think. And help with pricing.

Below is a list of websites to aid in your research:

http://www.energy-speakers.com/v2/
http://www.psbspeakers.com/

http://www.bwspeakers.com/

The Polks are also excellent and can be purchased through crutchfiel.com along with a Denon if this is the route you decide. I have dealt with them for over 15 years, first through mail-order.

Well, I went out and listened to the Paradigm Studio 60's last night and all I can say is WOW! I immediately listened to the Monitors and the difference is enough to make me save my money. I have been doing alot of research and I have been seriously condidering the Swan Diva 5.2's. Alot of what I have been reading says that the Axioms tend to be a little on the bright side, as well as the Rockets, and that the Swan's are more laid back. There have been a few references to them sounding similar to the Studio's. Don't ask me where I read that because I have looked through alot of forums. I like the look of the Swans alot more than the Studios. I listened to some Polk speakers, along side of some Sonus Fabers, and was not impressed. That could be because of the comparison, but they almost sounded like there was sheet over them. Sorry for rambling, this decision is very hard with all the choices out there. Anyone here have thoughts on the Swans?
