Axiom M22/VP150/QS8V2 Vs. ????

Guys, need some help and direction here. I am planning on going for the above combo (Axiom M22, VP150 and QS8V2 for) and this is coming out to about $1400. Do not need a sub because I have a Jamo SUB550 which I am quite happy with (unless someone knows what it sounds like and can recommend something better in this $400-600 range). Before I went ahead and spent the money, I thought I would see what senior and experienced audioholics have to say about whether it is the best use of my hard earned $1400 or I can get something better for the same amount of money.

Thanks Guys.

Have you had a chance to audition to any Axiom speakers? Have you listened to any other speakers to get some idea what you like.

Axioms speakers sound a lot like the Paradigm Studio stuff, very clean and neautral (some say bright). Its a sound I really like and Axiom delvers good value there.

There are other speakers that play well above their price like the Axioms, but I have no experience with any of them.

Axiom Speakers...

I'm very interested to hear what you think of the Axiom's. I too am in the market for some new home theater speakers. I'm also thinking of auditioning some of the Axiom speakers. I was thinking of getting the M22's but wasn't sure if I may even step up into the M50. My upstairs home theater consists of Paradigm Phantom's, Paradigm Titans, and the Paradigm PDR-12.

I've been very happy with the Paradigm setup but am interested to hear if the Axiom's will outperform them.

I haven't auditioned them I am going to try and see where I can find them. I am in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. If anyone knows where I can check them out, please let me know.
Thanks

Axiom has an auditioning program that can be found here:
http://www.axiomaudio.com/boards/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=9&page=1

I know there is someone in oakville with M80s that is willing to have you over to audition them.

I am in Kitchener and recently took the 3.5 hour drive up to their factory in Bright (minutes from the south end of Algonquin pp.) to listen to the entrire line. For me, it was well worth the drive.

jjhawksjj. I havn't listened to those Paradigms, but have listened to the Studio 20, 40 and 60.

I, and others who have done direct a/b comparisons think the Axiom line is very similar to the studio line.

The Axiom M22 is similar to the studio 40 but has less bass (see the M22 review here at audioholics), the M60 is similar to the Studio 60 and the M80 is similar to the Studio 100 and the Monitor 11. Someone on the Axiom site actually did extensive a/b comparisons between the Monitor 11 and M80 and felt the two were almost identical in sound.

Check out the auditioning program and see if you can find someone close to you who will let you have a listen.

bilgirami. BTW, if you can wait a couple of months until I can afford the M80 you are more than welcome to come to Kitchener for a listen. :D

Fred

P.S. The wait is killing me...

Two months is long wait man, I cant wait to get my system going. Just bought my yammy (RX-V663) and now want to pick the right speakers to go with it. Driving to kitchener is not an issue at all :). I will be happy to do that. What have you got right now?

BTW, I didnt find anyone in Oakville, on the list. Who are you talking about?

OK, don't laugh... In my bedroom I listen to music on a pair of very crappy computer speakers. They make the speakers in my recently purchased Sony A2020 display seem like true audiophile equipment!!

In the livinroom I have a Panasonic micro-stereo; much better than the pc speakers, but still not great.

The M80 is going to be a HUGE step up! :D :D

I checked back, and the guy from Burlington contacted me by pm with the offer (I hang out on the Axiom forums). If you post in the Hearing Things forum I'm sure you will get a response.

After posting I remembered that you were looking at the M22 package. They only one listed for that speaker was in the St. Catherines area. Thats not a bad drive for you, but for me it made more sense just to head up to Axiom.

You must have picked up that 663 in the US. They are not even listed on the Yamaha Canada site yet.

Yeah, two months is LONG time! :( I'm actually thinking of picking up an old receiver for cheap so I can move that up a little.

Yup, I picked up my Yammy in the US, $399 plus 20 for shipping. I got it delivered to a friends place where I was planning on going to be in the near future. Took a bit of chance on warranty because Yamaha Canada wont cover US purchase but I go to the US often and if there was an issue, i can just take the unit with me. It will be another couple of months before it is released in Canada. I sent e-mails to Axiom users in my area a while back but I havent heard back from any yet, well easter Sunday so people are probably busy digesting their turkeys still. If you know anyone I can contact directly, please send me a PM. Where abouts is axiom. I might decid to bite the bullet and just go there to listen to the fulllineup they have to offer.
Thanks

Axiom is located in Dwight, a hair south of Algonquin park. Its between 3 and 3.5 hours drive.

If you really want to listen to their full line it is well worth the drive. If you do any camping at all, its a stop on the way to some great camping.

They are not exactly set up for visitors, so you need to contact them ahead of time, but they are more than happy to have people drop by.

K, I know that area reasonably well. It is still fairly cold up there but in a month or so, I am hoping it might get a little bit better and I may take a drive up north. Thanks for the info Fred.
