Axiom going out of business???

I was talking to a high end dealer in NC yesterday, asking about surround speakers for HT. I asked him if he had heard the Axiom QS-8s. He said he heard they were out of business or going out of business. My guess is he just wanted to sell me his era's (for which very little information is available), but I thought I would check it out with the much more in the know crew here. Also, in considering Axiom vs. Mordaunt Short vs. Wharfedale, etc. Any experiences with any of these? Other ones I should audition? I need a warm speaker to match up with my Vandersteen mains. Thanks.

I figured as much...

with all the raves Axiom gets from Audioholic members it seemed highly unlikely.

I bought a full set of Axiom's (minus the sub) about a month ago and couldn't be happier with them. That sales guy was just trying to close a deal. I wouldn't go back there. Axiom is well respected among audiophiles and I'm sure will be around for a long time to come.

Maxer what else did you listen to before going with Axiom?

I'm particularly interested in the QS8. How do you characterize their sound? bright? warm? neutral?

Never heard the Axioms (they don't sell them over here) but I've heard the Wharfedales and Mordaunt Shorts - both companies make top notch speakers. I'm sure you will be just as happy with the Axiom's based on their reviews.

And don't believe anything coming from slimy salesmen who tell you blatant lies to push their own goods :)

If he doesn't rep Axiom, I can't see how he would know they were going out of business. Sounds like a someone I wouldn't do business with for sure... I had something sort of similar with my Paradigm guy when I told him I had chosen the A/V-2s over the v3 Studio 40s (which he had lent me for a week and a half for an in-home audition). He was saying things like "What will you do if they go out of business?" "Those internet guys don't know what they're doing..." etc... and this was a guy who I had been dealing with for many years. It bugged me, but I'm sure the fact that I didn't buy the 40s ticked him off pretty good too.

Not only are Axioms not going out of business they are just about to expand into the electronics part of the business.

I'd find his boss and explain to him why he won't get your business now or ever again.

Not all salesmen are like this, but it sure gives them a bad rep. (no, I'm not a salesman)

I have a pair of M60ti's and they rock.

Are Axioms comparable to Focals? Or am I comparing apples to oranges here?
