Axiom Audio Piano Finish Speakers Housings

Has anybody purchased any Axiom speakers with the piano black finish? I see it is an available option but when I actually starting looking at pricing it adds $2500.00 to the cost of the Epic 80-600 system. I may be wrong but that seems a little high for some piano gloss vinyl. I understand it is different from there normal production so it should cost some more but $2500. I went from $3900 to $6300 for the same speakers in Piano Black. I might as well go back to looking at DefTechs or Paradigms at that cost.

It better be some damn good vinyl for $2500. I am 100% sure that I can have them glassed, gloss painted, ckeared and polished for a hell of alot cheaper then that. But then I'm sure any and all warranties would be voided.

That can't be right. Call them and see what's up.

That sounds right. The premium finish has a premium cost. IMHO, makes them not worth the cost at that point.

With Axiom, the best is to go with the factory outlet. At those prices, they are simply unbeatable.

Thats one heck of an expensive jump for gloss...........you could have someone do it for you for way cheaper than factory finishes. Just a thought.

The premium you quoted for the high gloss finish is indeed very steep and I bet there would be a lot of great speakers within that price bracket. I don't think it is a vinyl high gloss but in fact a real wood veneer with a piano high gloss finish. It can't hurt to call them and try to see if you can haggle on a price.

It will be a laquer finish. Lots of layers, lots of polishing. They could probably cut down on the cost considerably by doing the finish in China, but its done in Canada.

It has to be the real wood veneers. I was looking at the 60's awhile back and the real wood cost increased the price by about 50%. In fact if I had gone with the Axioms I would have gone with the real wood.... IMO its worth it. That was until my speakers went on sale, but I still like the Axioms:).

I believe you can order speakers unfinished. Custom is probably the most expensive way to do this sort of thing as it is all one off. No economies of scale, no processes to refine...

That seem like some price increase. I had my towers redone from the factory about a year ago. I went from piano black to black oak veneer (real wood veneer) and I was charged $200.-- for the pair. 11"wide 40"tall. They must have quoted you a wrong price. I would go with the less expensive version since they'll sound the same. To me piano black got old after a while. These towers had a retail of $4750.--so for $200.-- I got the finish I wanted.

Those are real prices. A couple days ago, I posted that I was looking into the Axiom Epic 80-600 system. Everything seemed great until I tried to get it made in a wood that matched our room. The cost of the system skyrocketed! I'm looking at using the custom matte finishes (which are cheaper), versus using a different subwoofer. As another audioholic pointed out to me, Axiom subwoofers are expensive when compared to comparable subwoofers.

Those are the prices from the site and no they aren't a vinyl covering. Everything I've looked at from Subs to surrounds is more expensive when a piano black finish is used. Personally I don't like the glare that comes off them but that's just me. If you like the speakers I would suggest looking into another finish.

You could also talk to some paint shops around that may be able to give you the same finish and see how much they wold charge you. You would have to take out the speakers and everything before they were finished but it may be worth it to find out.

One thing I forgot to mention when I purchased my towers the piano finish was the cheapest finish available.
