Awkward home theater room - *3D model*

I've made a 3D model to show the awkward set up I have for my home theater room. How can I best make this space work for my new HTIB? I'm not a huge audiophile or anything (obviously, I bought a HTIB).

Please help me to determine the best layout for my speakers. I'm attaching a template and my first suggestion.

Thanks for the feedback.

If necessary, I could get anyone interested the sketch up 3D model.

The HTIB will be the ONKYO HT-S8490. I wanted the HT-S990THX, but I wasn't real impressed with the reviews that mentioned how wide the box speakers were. I wanted something that was comparable, and sleeker.

Without seeing the room in person I would start with this layout and see how I like it.

I would most likely put the sub in the corner behind the TV. Corner loading it will help with output. It might not be the best place for a flat frequency response but it's where I'd start.

Thank you so much! I forgot about sub placement. Behind the TV could certainly work. If you have sketch up (free download from Google) I could send you the 3D version...not sure if that would help any. Otherwise, I can get you other still shot angles.

Strongbad, So this would be your idea from the other angle?

Surrounds and subs placements makes sense...
I'd like to add my thoughts: Placing tower speaker will be very tight according to rendering and will severely restrict your choices to something like B&W XT speakers series (which I have had listened to - not bad at all, but expensive)
and this makes fronts and center a bit to close to need a center at all

As alternative and a great space saver I think this product might interest you:
Atlantic Technology - FS-5000
Yes, it's not cheap, but AT makes high quality products and I believe AH store (still does?) runs a 20% off sale on all AT products

Your surrounds and sub could be from a different maker

Another idea... (I believe the speaker part of the front towers can be detached from their stand).

ignore my last post - I missed the part you said you already purchased ONKYO HT-S8490 (same as ONKYO HT-S8400 ???)

My error, and, no, it is the ONKYO S8409. I bet I could still detach the towers if needed....I could always return this system if you guys can think of a better one at a comparable price point.

Correct.

If you can move the seating this is a good idea also.

Just my $.02
Since it a less than ideal situation, why not just set it up as 5.1 instead of 7.1?

I agree with Rickster71, 7.1 won't do much for you based on the room and angles. At most I would run 6.1 and put the 6th speak in the back corner by the table.

Your current setup does not offer a premium seat to set the surround to, so I would follow the diagram above which suggests rotating the couch to allow your ears to be in line with the surround speakers and puts your front channels directly in front of you.

Looks like a room perfect for the Bose's 3-2-1 system if you don't want to move the couch.

is there room over the fireplace to put the TV ?

are these floor standing fronts ? if not they could also be put on the fireplace wall on either side of the tv in my pic

Thanks for the advice you guys. I'm not sure it'd look good to rotate the couch and I'm not a fan of tv's over the fireplace...weird neck angle for me. I was curious about the best speaker arrangement for the set up I had...and you guys gave some great feedback. Unfortunately, I may not be able to have it as top notch as it could be. I'm going to set it up today and see how I feel about it.
