AVR passing audio through to TV?

So I'm a little stumped trying to set up my new system. I am running DirecTV via HDMI to my Denon 2809ci AVR, then HDMI back to my Panasonic VT60. For some reason, when I start up the system, the audio does not come out of the AVR, but instead comes out of the tv speakers. If I leave the TV and satellite box on, then turn the AVR on and off, the problem corrects itself and I get the audio out of the receiver. The same thing happens when I try and watch a DVD on my Oppo 103, so I know the problem must be somewhere in my AVR settings, but I have tried to toggle a few around and cant find anywhere where this is set.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hi. I'm guessing that you've done this (since the audio does play through the Denon after power cycling), but be sure to set the "HDMI Audio Out" to "Amp" as shown on page 30 of the owner's manual.

Because power cycling affects this, try setting the "HDMI Control" to "Off" (also on page 30).

Both of those settings are the defaults, but perhaps they got switched as you were trying out different things.
