AVR-3805 vs. RXV-2500

Hey fellas,

Starting in January or February (after all the holiday hullabaloo and new upgrades have made their mark) I plan on getting a new A/V receiver, Aperion speakers (towers, center, rears), xbox 360, and panasonic industrial plasma.

The receiver is the only product I am still researching and shopping.

As such, while I realize that both of these models (Denon AVR-3805 and RXV-2500) are already considered "old school" with all the upcoming new models and HDMI stuff, I still think either will suit me nicely. I also think I can get (online) either for between $500-700 by then...

So what do y'all think about either (pros and cons), performance, features, abilities?

Thanx in advance,

-Tiffany

PS I will be doing 40% music, and 60% Home theater with this stuff...

I'd go for the 2500. Just like the look, sound, and feel better. Can't stand the 3805 remote.

The 2500 has a much better (GUI) user interface. Aside from that I personally feel the 2500 is a better receiver.

Both receivers will do well and match up closely.....I think it will boil down to which one you can get at a better price....coming from someone who has the 3805; it does very well you will not be dissappointed

RX-v2500 A WINNER !!!
Can't stand Denon receiver front panel layout.
Look like from the 80s is back ?! unless you need the blue lite to match w/other component. 2nd, the Yami have much more natural brighter sound & better OS , nice remote :) IMO

I wouldn't make your mind up on what the front panel looks like. The Denon hands down has more power I don't care what the manufacturers specs say, but the Yamaha is no slouch either with a better price. Flip a coin.

Hi,

I was exactly in the same boat as you're now. Tell yo what: after having the chance to perfom an A/B test, to my ears the Denon was clearly the winner. Much more natural and crip sound.
Yammie has much more DSP's and a better GUI.
I've also noted - perhaps not a big issue - but the yammie gets pretty hot. The Denon doesn't get even closer on that comparioson.

As someone else said, it's a matter of flipping a coin, as both are great units.
Quite sure that you'll get a better price on the yammie.

Good luck and enjoy the sound!

Almost exactly what i was going to say, except i have a 2500.

Both will sound good, are built well, and have terrible remotes. I saw someone posted earlier that the 3805 remote was terrible, well, the 2500 remote isn't any better.

You can't go wrong with either receiver. Both have similar sound modes, power, automatic room setup and more features than average (even most audiophile) people will ever use.

Easily fixable with a Harmony Remote. :D

The 3805 remote is terrible - I ditched it in favor of a Harmony. Otherwise, the 3805 is one of the best receivers on the market. Yamaha is good stuff too of course. You really won't go wrong with either. See if you can find a store that has them side by side and see which one looks and feels better to you. Also compare features and specs of course - preferably at a site that let's you compare side by side (Crutchfield?). Don't underestimate looks of the front panel - my Denon in silver looks beautiful to me. You do have to look it as you use your system.
