Hi, I am new to this and hope someone can help me.
I have been using a yamee HTR 5540 until recently, with a pioneer HPM-30 front speaker set, a yammie sub (55 RMS powered), a set of mission book shelves for the rear. The DVD was a pioneer.
Recently I upgraded to a 2805 and followed the set up as required in the manual. Except the amp, nothing has changed..... I find that the volume of the avr is very much lower than the yamee..... With the yamee, I did never cross about 50% of the capacity of the yamee, but with the 2805, I have to crank it up to about 80% (the vol reads -20dB) for it be reasonably loud....
Is there some setting that I have not done right???? os is this the way this amp works.....
thanks guys in advance for you help...
ollie.

I'd say around 20 is right for it to be loud and after that it gains volume guickly. Set the speakers level at around 75 with a RS meter and the master volume at zero and there ya go. Maybe your old one was not set up right.

I could be totally wrong but I think you may have the mute on. There is a setting for the mute level on the receiver for -20db and -40db. If the mute is indeed on you would still get sound but you would have to turn the volume up considerable to get "normal" volume. Check that the mute is turned off.

Sounds normal to me. I set up the 2805 about a month ago and it often depends on the source, how high the volume is set. Dolby 5.1 sources need higher volume than PL 11X. Comparing the Denon to my older Technics, I don't have to crank it up to get the multichannel effect. Even the Nascar races don't need to be so cranked up to get the Zoom! My neighbours will be happy. (Running 7.1 with 2 subwoofers).

the numbers from the two amps don't correspond to each other, so one being minus 20 and the other minus 50 don't mean much. if they had originally been calibrated to the same standard, then you would have something to worry about.

each manufacturer sets up the gain on the volume in a different manner. In many cases, he will use the same volume set-up even in different models in the same line, so minus 20 in a Yamaha RX-V1500 will mean nothing compared to minus 20 in an RX-V2500.

the numbers are really more for you to be able to remember where you like it set than they are for comparing products.. :)
