Avoiding redundancy between Pre/Pro and BluRay

Guys:

My wife decided my old projector TV has to go. So I plan to replace it with a 60 inch Samsung.

I have that old TV connected to a Lexicon DC-1 which served me well for years in a 5.1 kitchen entertainment room set up.

I have my eye on an opp-103 and a Marantz 8801.

I thought about upgrading my Lexicon as there is a gentleman who has a 6/8 channel upgrade kit which gives the Lexicon to have lossless audio. However there is still the issue of no HDMI connections to the vintage Lexicon unless I go right from oppo to TV.

As I mentioned the Marantz is nice because of a lot of things but it also has internet connectivity, room correction, 4K upscaling, and air play. All of these sound good to me.

However the Oppo has internet connectivity.

I could save a lot of money if I went with something like the Outlaw 975 which is a minimalist pre/pro with good sound.

The 975 however 1) lacks internet
2) does not upscale to 4k
3) has no air play
4) does not do room correction.

However again I could correct #1 with getting an oppo with internet
#2 I understand that 4K might not be a big deal with 60 inch tvs
#3 I could add apple express or apple tv to the oppo (but I do not
know if compatible
#4 learn how to do room correction with spl meter

So my question is: Am I thinking about this correctly ie trying to use a 975 and making it act like a Marantz.

Thanks

Bill

You cannot do Room Correction or something like Audyssey Dynamic EQ with a SPL meter.

But if you don't care for any of that, then the Outlaw pre-pro or AVR would work well.

OneCall has an open box Denon X4000 for $700. They will negotiate on prices. See if they would sell it for $600 shipped. See if Electronics Expo would beat the prices from Onecall and Amazon also.

Thanks for that. I will investigate those leads. I did not realize I could not do a full room correction. The front left, center and right speakers are in ideal positions sitting in an entertainment center. The rears are not centered for the listener. That's were I would definitely have to intervene. I will respond again after reading about the denon. I never heard of one call this will be exciting for me.
Thanks
Bill
