i noticed most people around here get there calibration patterns from AVIA (i use DVE although i'm not really recommending it over AVIA which i have never used). from curt palme's excellent "greyscale for dummies" guide - "We do not recommend using the original Avia DVD as the greyscale patterns are incorrect! (The authors have admitted to this). " - has this been fixed?

This is the first I'm hearing about this and I'm not buying it. I'll tell you why too. This is my very first thread here nearly 2 years ago:

Since then I have seen Avia and DVE both recommended many times and discussed pretty often as well. So them saying that the authors admitted to it isn't good enough. I would have to see it for myself. Obviously I didn't read that whole thing yet and now I will have to. So thanks for the motivation.

BTW, the qreyscale pattern(?) on the Avia II disc says something about it being for assessment purposes and not for calibration or something to that effect. It's in the CD-ROM portion for advanced brainiacs of which I am sadly not one. So far I have used two different calibration discs and have calibrated two different TV's. I am no expert but neither TV had any greyscale adjustments that I could readily get to. That's probably for the best. :)
