What is the best calibration software for for use with my Panny AE900U LCD projector, Avia or DVE?

Thanks!

I have the same projector and the DVE. DVE does a good job IMO, but it takes forever to get to the calibration steps. Whoever is narrating the video explains everything about what the different settings do, and the first time it is good, but if you need to go back and recalibrate it is a pain in the neck. Also, make sure you get all three filters so you can calibrate all the colors, usually blue is included but you can find people who sell it with all the filters. I purchased from an ebay seller and he included all three and had fast shipping.

Are you sure you are talking about DVE and not AVIA? DVE will pause after the explanation and you have as much time as you need to do the adjustment. AVIA forces you to listen to the narration and then gives you one or two minutes before it continues to the next setting automatically. I like DVE better for video simply because you are not rushed, but if I were to buy only one disc it would be AVIA.

Im using DVE. I agree it allows as much time as possible to calibrate, but if i try to fast forward through all the talking to get straight to the calibration it will pass the calibration parts. I was just hoping there was a chapter that would say brightness, or contrast, etc and you click on it and it takes you straight there to calibrate, no narration.

I bought the AVIA disc. The first few times through, I listened to the explanations for each of the basic video settings, and finally I took notes on what to look for as I make each of these settings. Now that I have my "crib sheet," I simply push the "skip to next track" button on my DVD player in order to skip the explanation for each video setting. After the explanation for each setting, there are two tracks for each basic video test. If I run out of time and the next test starts, I just go back a couple of tracks and play it again.

I haven't used my AVIA disc in a long time, but I thought when you press 'last track' you have to suffer through the whole narration again.

Each of the basic video adjustments segments has 3 tracks, the first being the narration and demo, and the other two tracks (which are identical) showing the test pattern. When you push the "last track" button on some DVD players, it goes back to the beginning of the track that you're playing; but other machines will skip back to the track that's before the one that's playing. On those machines, if you're in the middle of the first test pattern track, a single press of the "last track" button will go back to the beginning of the narration. If that happens, just press the "next track" button to go to the start of the first of the two test-pattern tracks.

I use the Avia. You can definitely go to just the tests. My only problem, especially with the brightness control is that I really don't see the mushrooming of the top block. I keep changing the setting each time I try, but only by a few numbers. Does anyone else have this same problem. I did find that none of my colors; blue, green and red needed any changing and I kept them at zero.

Is there a place to buy those test dvd's at a discount/ I hate paying full price for that stuff but I'll need to get them once I buy a new display.

I bought my copy of AVIA on eBay (new) at a discount, and I just found 4 or 5 new copies there that are selling for $10-12 below the price manufacturer's website. I didn't search for the other test disc...
