I was currently going to purchase the pioneer vsx -1015tx-s. however my home theatre system was Home theatre out of the box. So my home theatre plugins are colored green red etc. and they have two wires going through to them. How can I plug these into any receiver? Because I do not want to go out and buy a brand new home theatre system just for my Xbox 360 to play games in 5.1 through my receiver...so if anyone can help me out that would be awesome.

the plugs are for each home theatre speaker. so there is a plug for the each center tower, the sub woofer, and the 2 surround speakers. Each is a different color.

thats not the point. the point is that from what I have been told, those plugins wont plug into any AV receiver and that is a big concern to me. Because I want to play 5.1 on my xbox 360 and I guess I will just have to try to get a picture of what the wire looks like for you guys to know what I am speaking of. So I will try my best to display a picture for you guys so you guys can atleast have something to work with.

as long as there are two wires coming out of the back of each speaker, you can hook it up to anything......the polarity is going to be the only thing that you have to watch out for......if there is just one wire coming out of each speaker with an RCA connector, then you'll have to get creative, but it can be done pretty easily.....post a picture

Doesn't the Xbox have a digital audio output for connection to a HT receiver? If so, then be just be sure whatever receiver you buy accepts it.

Barring the digital output on the entey level 360 you'll have to use whatever analog outputs you have. Check your owner's manual to see which color/plug corrolates to what channel they handle. Odds are you can purchase converters at RatShack to convert these to six RCA plugs so your receiver can accept these. Remember, this base unit was designed to beused with computer/game speakers, not a HT receiver.

Once you have the analog channels identified you'll need to feed them (through the needed adapters) to the correct RCA analog inputs on the back of your receiver. Again, check your manuals for theese. You will need to need to be aware that the level of the Xbox signal will be of a much higher level then the receiver was designed for so you'll have to be careful with the levels. You could easily overdrive the receiver.

But, If your receiver doesn't allow a direct analog connection of the six analog channels then you're SOL. Many entry level receivers and/or HTIB units don't.

Actually, the digital output on the premium Xbox would be a worthwhile step up if you want to play it through a receiver instead of a computer speaker. With that, you can play it with virtually any HT receiver.

One thing to check before connecting home theater in a box speakers to a new receiver - what is their impedance? My Sony system uses 2.7 ohm speakers (printed on the bottom of each box). Most HT receivers will go to 6 ohms minimum. I expect problems would arise if I hooked my Sony speakers up to most any other receiver.

Just cut off the plugs

Hey Nate...Do you plan to use the speakers with the HTIB receiver again? I have a Yamaha HTIB that had plugs for each speaker wire too. They were just a pressure clip that came off by lifting a lever. Like Indianboy said, its probably just a matter of determining the correct polarity. Also a good idea to check the impedance. The yamahas were 6 ohm and I'm sure everyone does it different. If you post a pic we could probably tell you for sure. Good luck

looks like a speaker wire to me (and just make sure it is).......that connector is made for the htib reciever...if you're going to throw away the reciever, just clip the wires about an inch from the connector.......strip them and figure out which one is negative (usually the negative wire has a stripe running down the length of it...)...maybe even look on the connector before you snip the wire..it may be on there and you can just wrap a piece of tape around the negative wire. Some wires also have a red dye on the positive side's copper (or silver dye on the negative side copper), so when you strip the wire, you see red and silver (positive and negative). Like the last guy said, look on the speaker and make sure you don't have less than 6 ohms of resistance...otherwise you may end up blowing your new nice reciever....When you plug them into the new reciever, if it sounds funny, just reverse the polarity...I've seen some HITB's that intentionally reverse the markings (i.e. the stripe is on the positive wire) to make it so you can't use another reciever. Either way, nothing's going to get hurt as long as the resistance of the speakers are compatable with the reciever....good luck......

also, could you post another picture with maybe some less glare...I just wanna see that connector again
and maybe even post a picture of the back of the speaker so we can see if it will fry your new reciever or not...

sorry i never saw your post..um yea I will try to get another pic for you if i can. This all sounds mighty risky...but i dont know if im gonna get that receiver for a little while so i guess i dont need to worry a lot (yet..) cuz man...i got a samsung HLP5685w tv that I play my xbox 360 on and my home theatre system seems good enough for my living room. Its just this ridiculous problem with the wires...its pathetic..like it shouldn't have to be this complicated for me to just get wires into an A/V receiver...I guess back then I didn't pay attention to what home theatre system to get cuz my older brother just ran and picked one up. If i wasn't such a newb to this stuff then maybe I would have considered getting seperate speakers and just making my own home theatre system.

Believe me when I say that this isn't a hard thing to do.....just post some good quality pics (with no glare) of the connector and the wire and I should be able to figure it out for you...
