AV receiver not working like it used to

So I have a fairly new NAD T747 and a pair of PSB Image T speakers. I play my music off a computer via the AV receiver's digital input. Everything worked great for months; I usu. ran the volume at about minus 20 dB. I turned it on one day and couldn't hear a thing. I checked all the connections. Now I have to crank it up to 0 dB to hear the music and it does not play as loudly as it used to at minus 20. So I'm stumped and my AV receiver runs a bit hot at 0 dB. So what might be going on?

Check the volume on the PC..?
Good idea but no dice. I'm using the digital out from a mac mini so there is no (operational) volume control on the PC. The volume is controlled entirely by the AV receiver.

Maybe I'm just not familiar with Macs, but the digital out should be subject to the same volume control. Is it disabled when using digital out on a Mac or something?

So problem solved and thanks for getting me to think through the problem. The system volume control on the mac is essentially disabled when outputting sound via the digital out. I run everything thru the mac (music, movies, etc.) but oddly enough the volume control in iTunes is still operational. I always leave the volume all the way up on iTunes and control the volume via the AV receiver. Someone must have joggled the volume control on iTunes; I turned it up all the way and problem solved, :). Thanks for the help.
