I need some help in deciding what AV receiver and speaker systems to buy with a budget of 4500 ? (can go up by another 500 ) . Usage will mainly be for movies/music.

:)Thanks!

What size is your room?

The only way to find a speaker is to listen for yourself. Try to find as many in your price range and go audition them. Here is a list of my favorite most of which I auditioned 5 months ago.

Paradigm studio series
Warefedale Evo series
PSB Image series
KEF IQ series
Monitor Audio RS series
Ascend CMT-340
AV123 Rockets
Aperion Intimus 633

All the big dawgs are coming out with or just came out with the HDMI 1.3s if that's important. There is no way to tell you what AVR or amp to use until you know what speakers you are going with.

Use Monoprice or Bluejeans for all you wire and cable. Do not spend a lot of money in this area!

I would also look into SVS or HSU for the sub. Give them a call and they will tell you what you need based on your room size.

I agree that you need to come closer to a decision about what speakers your purchasing before making a decision on a A/V receiver.

Also what system configuration do you want? 5.1, 7.1? Also need to know more about your room to figure out what surrounds you need.

Oh, boy. Do I have a system for you!
For receiver, I would get the Onkyo SR805 THX-Ultra ($800 Free S/H from J&R). For Speakers, I would get the DefTech BP7001SC ($2,750 pr includes S/H from Digitalcraze), CLR3000 ($840), and StudioMonitor 450 for surrounds ($270 each x 2 = $540).
This should leave you with $70 for fish-net cables:D
