I have wondered...I need to replace a lightening struck stereo power amp and have found that stereo power amps in a moderate price range are pretty rare these days (replaced by surround sound receivers). I am replacing an old Carver amp from the mid 80's in a system that only is used to run vinyl disks to a pair of Vandersteen speakers in a living room system that doesn't get much serious listening. A visit to my local audiophile shop turned up lots of very expensive power amps but I really don't want to spend that much money. A visit to my local Guitar Center, however, turned up several high powered Crown stereo amps intended for concert sound systems that have pretty low prices. Any suggestions on how the sound quality of an amp like this would be in a living room?
