AV Cables & Connections help !!

Hi,
I have an 'out of sight' cabinet for all the components. The question is identifying cables.
Among others I see four co-ax cables running from the cabinet to the celing where the projector goes.
Are these meant for Component vedio signal?
If so how do I terminate it to connect to the projector. What connectors to use?
Also there are two purple cables (cat5 I think.) Dont know what these are too.

Thanks in advance.

Is this a new construction house? Who ordered the wiring? to do what?

If in fact the coax is going to the ceiling where a projector would be mounted, 3 could be used as RGB video cables. Not sure what the 4th is for, unless a backup composite video? You could use RCA connectors made for coax, or F type connector and an adapter to RCA which may be the way to go for easy termination.

Are those two pairs of purple cables, rather thin, or just one pair? Twisted pair? Unterminated?
It could be used as a remote sensor cable back to the cabinet from the projector.

Thanks mtrycrafts.

Yes this is a new spec home. By the time I bought everything was completed. I was told the it is pre-wired for 7.1 sur sound.
I will try to find the connectors you mentioned.
I checked the purple cables. they are 2 cat5 Unterminated cables, not twisted ones. If those are meant for remote sensor then I do not need them as I am planning on getting a Logitech Harmony RF remotes.
Thanks again.

Yes, but if your equipment cabinet is out of sight, are you using RF remote? The sensor by the projector could pick up your IR sensor and send it to the cabinet. Sensors don't really need twisted cables.

You would also need some tools to attach the connectors, otherwise you may have connection issues later.

Are the speakers in the right locations? What cable to the sub, if that is part of the prewire? That too can use a coax but not a speaker wire, not a powered sub.

Yes I will be getting a RF remote. But why do we need to send IR signal to the cabinet from the projector area?? Won't the RF remote do that??

I have a coax for the sub too.

If you have RF type remote, then you don't need wire for it. Not all remotes do this, then you need wire and sensors to transmit signals not in line of sight. I suppose your cabinet with the equipment is not in line of sight, although it may not be an issue except for your audio equipments if they don't take RF remote signal.

Coax is good for the sub. Some installers are still back in the old days and run speaker wire to the sub, not coax.

Thanks mtrycrafts and everyone else. It was very helpful.

All the RF remotes I've set up have a RF base station that is mounted in the cabinet, which has IR out's that go to each piece of equipment. I run cat5 to the projector for control along with RGBHV or just component in the installs that i've done. Cat5 is used for either IR from the RF base station, or we use it as RS232 from a crestron controller. Good news is that as long as you have it up there, you have lots of options for how to hook up your equipment. I've never seen a RF remote that directly communicates with RF equipment, they usually work on different signals, so IR is still used from the remotes RF base station, but line of sight is not required.
