I recently acquired a Yamaha RX-V659 Receiver & while I am pleased with the overall features/performance of the unit I am experiencing the following problem.
Whenever I attempt to setup the unit using the OPTIMIZER MIC & the Auto Setup mode I keep getting the following error message “E-1 : NO FRONT SP” It should be noted that the speaker selector is set correctly “A” & the speakers are connected correctly. In addition, I find it strange that when the unit is setup manually it functions quite ok & when the TONE TEST is conducted all speakers (FL,FR, CENTER, SL, SR & WOFFER) emits sound. Any suggestion/recommendations on what is causing this problem & how it can be resolved will be greatly appreciated

I did not have this problem when setting up my 659 but have you tried shutting off and unplugging the receiver then disconnect and reconnect each speaker?

If that does not work you may want to try disconnecting all the speakers and electronics then resetting the receiver itself. This is a harsh method because if you have it set up you will lose everything and will be starting all over factory fresh.

Keep us informed on your progress.

I am not familiar with Yamaha auto setup, but on Denons reinitializing the processor and starting over with factory defaults often clears up problems, especially if it is second hand or a referb unit.

Mic connection

Do you have the setup mic connected properly? If not, the receiver probably tests the mains first and doesn't hear the tones and stops the Auto setup procedure.
