It's not just brand, it's the actual model. But it's kind of a reverse situation.
The mic is not calibrated to the receiver, but the internal correction curve of the receiver is tailored to the mic chosen for it, to "make the mics flat".
In the earlier days, the mics were often of the inferior "puck" style mics, which is what I have. Maybe that's why it was relatively so cheap.

I had to buy it because when I bought it factory direct refurb, there was nothing in the description that says it would be missing.
I remember Denon mics were rather expensive at the time I was reading about such things many years ago. Maybe Marantz won't be as bad.
Yes, so you're wondering which mics were redundantly used among which models. Well I sure don't know, and good luck getting that info from mftrs. Firstly, you would have a hard time finding someone who actually knew, even across models but across brands whew, and even if they did, they probably wouldn't tell you as there's money to be made off you.
Anyway, if you like Audyssey on the Denon, buy the mic for the Marantz. If you were gong to sell either of them, it might be desirable to the buyer. Just trying to make the pill a little easier to take for you.
