I have Denon x 4500h and am contemplating On buying the Audysey App. I am curious if this will help me increase treble more than using the tone in the Receiver.I like my speakers little brighter.I have the Martin Logan Motion 40.

Yes, you can use the editor app to change upper frequency response curve. Might also consider downloading the ratbudyssey app to help with manipulating the curve.

With the app you can adjust the frequency response to your personal taste. With tone controls you are working with a set curve that you can't adjust. It is a necessity in my mind because you can make it only adjust frequencies to a set limit like 300hz or 500hz. Most people don't care for a flat frequency response which is all you can do with just Audyssey.

Even with the avr based Audyssey curves availble, it's not just "flat". Tone controls are fixed controls for fixed frequency/rolloffs and not really comparable. The Audyssey app is limited to a cutoff of 500hz?

I guess I should have been more clear because the cutoff frequency can be anywhere you want. I was not aware of Audyssey curves. I know you can use one of two curves on my x3400 Reference or flat but if you use the app the upper frequencies aren't affected where Audyssey puts a little dip around 2000hz if you cut off at 400hz like I do. So if you cut off at 400hz having the two curves my receiver is capable of on it's own then frequencies above the chosen frequencies won't be affected.

It is also common knowledge that equalizing frequencies above the Schroeder frequency of your room can have a negative affect. From what I've read I think most of us use a cutoff of 300hz to 500hz with the app. If I were to suggest a starting point that is what I would recommend to most people. With the app you can make any curve you want. And I want the OP to have this knowledge.
