Audiosource Amp 100 for driving surrounds.

I have a question. Does anyone here use any Audiosource amps? The Amp 100 looks like a lowered powered knockoff of the outlaw monoblocks. If I'm driving Energy Dipoles, would 2 of these warrant an upgrade for surround?

Also, I read somewhere that these have auto signal sensing technology like the Outlaws, is that true? I can't find much info on them as my brower freezes on audiosource's homepage.

They're going for $80 a pop on Ebay. Seems cheap enough to try.

By All Means, Try It!

Hi BlueSmoke.

I am a firm believer in separate amplification. I don't know how many wpc your Yamaha receiver has, but I doubt it will give you 100wpc for any of your speakers.

However, I would put those amps on your front speakers first, to see what a difference it makes.

At the price you can get them for, it is worth the experiment. If you don't notice much improvement, that will tell you that to get a true improvement over your receiver you need more power. I always recommend 200wpc which truly makes a noticable improvement in the sound, and I'm not just talking about how loud it can now go.

Googling around will tell you why Audiosource amplifiers are so cheap, because they aren't very reliable.;)

oooo crap... Certainly don't want that. I liked the idea of the signal sensing auto on, and it seems to have good power in bridged mode if I wanted to run my fronts.

Look in the used market for amplifiers, Adcom, Acurus, Carver, and Rotel are good things to look at. Audiogon and eBay have a ton of amplifiers you could look at.:) They probably won't have fancy features like Auto-on, but they will stand the test of time better than Audiosource amplifiers ever thought about doing.;)

This is the first I've heard about them not being reliable...I have an audiosource EQ eight that is 15 years old that still works just fine (although, it's in my junk not used any more pile). I've read of issues with just about any brand out there.

Audiosource used to be good, but they they have since been bought out by what is now known as Ronin Company. Ronic Company owns the new lame "Carver" and Pheonix Gold.

If not loudness, what then? ;)
