Is anyone familiar with audiophile quality in wall or in ceiling speakers? Most posts on here seem to indicate between the two, in walls are superior to in ceilings.

So presuming in walls only, can in wall speakers be as good as a top notch free standing speaker? Mosts posts I have read on the subject make a general statement like "Triad is great for in wall/ceiling speakers."

I'm not looking for that info. rather, I would like to know if, on their own compared to ALL types of speakers, if there is a in wall that can compete head to head with a great sounding free standing speaker, without giving any concession to the in-wall. If so, please recommend something in a reasonable price range, 2k per pair or less preferred.

I would check out some offerings from Atlantic Technology. They have had great reviews in the past and go about things the right way in offering quality in-wall enclosures for their designs as well.

These are fully enclosed so no worries about integrating with the wall cavity for volume. http://www.atlantictechnology.com/default.asp?NodeId=67

I'm consdiering going this route and it is more for aesthetic reasons. Most reviews I've read mention they'd only lack in bass due to the nature of the cabinet otherwise thery're every bit as good? Fwiw... I'm looking at the Axioms because they offer great value, lots of choices and real wood veneer custom work....that's where I'm leaning.
