If I remember correctly Audioholics was one of the first places a review of the Yamaha Z9 when it came out. Any word when they might get a version of the new Z11 to review?
Well - they have had a first look already on the new Z11.

I did see this first look. Why have we not seen anyone post anything on from the Oct 6th event where it was demo-ed?

This was to be the first actual demonstation of the z11 and I have not seen anything on it.

I believe the unit we saw at the Audioholics Party was an early demo/prototype unit. (At least that's what I overheard) It was not a final release item. I am quite sure that the Audioholics review staff will be glad to review a production unit when it's made available. Granted, that means one of them needs to add some more speakers to their reference theater

I was not able to play with the unit but did sit through a few demos. The extra effect of the "height channels" was interesting, to say the least. I'm just not sure how many people will want an 11.2 system in their house when they barely have enough room for 7.1 much less 5.1. The Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD are nice features that will definitely be a big selling point for this "beast" of a receiver.

For those that have had the good privilege of enjoying a demo of the Z11 if you could comment on the sonic qualities of the z11 that would be greatly appreciated. I am not so much interested in the unit as 11.2 as I am 9.2 setup with the front presence channels. I do like the highly configurable amp section. I would use the z11 as a pre/pro for my front 3 speakers and hopefully will have the flexibility to assign those amps to additional zones.

But the most important element of the Z11 is the sonic qualities it has to be incredibly detailed and clean sounding in both it's ADC's, DAC's, opamp/preamp and amp sections. Ideally, it could match the sonics of something like the merdian g series, or lexicon, or Cary 11a.

It was mentioned in our show report and AV Rant Podcast:

I will be reviewing a production unit when its finally released in November.

Oh and Major, I have plenty of speakers on hand to test it in 11.2 :D

Gene,

I will be anxiously waiting to hear more as I am on the cusp of purchasing for a new media room. There are some of us that are using their receiver as a pre/pro, if you would, could you please comment in your review on the preamp portion of the receiver (output to an off board amp) that would be greatly appreciate. I plan to use an outboard amp for my front three channels and then drive the rest of the speakers with the internal amps.

Also if you could give some direct comparisons on the sonic abilities (clarity, dynamic range, openness) of the Z11 as compared to your reference system that would be appreciated also. One area I am particular concerned about is the DAC's to preamp stage. I currently have a RX-V2700, and using certain sources the analog output on the source is more dynamic and open than using an SPDIF connection to the receiver.

Thanks for great reviews and best wishes to Audioholics,

David
