Audioholics Denon AVR-4806 Review When?

I have placed my order for the Denon AVC-A11XV(aka AVR-4806) and am looking interested into readings the Audioholics review and any tips they may provide. I saw it mentioned in an Audioholics news updated that the review was coming soon. How soon? :)

Also can you let us know how to check what firmware version is currently on the unit as there is a new one supposed to be released with fixes to the Audyssey EQ on the AVR-4806 to reduce the harshness and also how the mic needs to be postitioned i.e. not having to point it at each speaker.

Secondly a few (not all) AVR-4806 owners are reporting that Audyssey is detecting their speakers as large when they should be small. I would like to know if you have detected the same thing or will this be addressed in a future firmware release?

Thirdly can you check if the HDMI is passing black as it should be when using the upconvert function.

Lastly I saw this mentioned in a press release and wanted to know if you'll get an advance look and play with this feature-

The company also announced September availability of in-the-field upgrades to two current A/V receivers, the $5,999 AVR-5805 and $3,500 AVR-4806. The upgrades let the receivers stream music from a Windows XP PC, stream Internet radio stations directly from a broadband modem, and let custom installers diagnose the unit remotely over the Internet. The upgrades will be available as a download or on a CD-ROM. The upgrades would be transferred to the receivers via a laptop PC.
Thanks in advance,

Spero D.

Thanks in advance,

I would like to see a review on this rec. my self. We just put our floor model out last week. In our sound room it sounds really good, obviously lots of head room. I ran the receiver in 5.1 with Polk LSi speakers. These speakers are rated at 4 ohms nom., and I must say the 4806 didn't break a sweat at all. No audible distortion even at near defening levels.

Funny that you mentioned the Auto Calibration setting the speakers to large. That is the same thing ours did when I ran the Aud. Eq. It set every single speaker to large, so I went in an manually changed the settings. I didnt have any problems positioning the mic correctly though. It picked up speaker distance and corrected for it very nicely.

Can Audioholics give an official response to this post. There are a great many members out there eagerly awaiting the review.

regarding AVR-4806

Seeing as no reviews have taken place on the AVR-4806 yet, I'd like to initiate some discusion on its quirks. Considering its such a complicated piece the learning experience may go on for quite awhile. However, here are a few things I have managed to determine so far (I have left out many more subtle ones):

Video upconversion must be enabled for HDMI/DVI on-screen display to work (mentioned in owner's manual, but easy to miss);
Only portions of on-screen display will function with HDMI/DVI output (things like volume control do not);
Auto-setup always lists small speakers as large (midsize surround/surround back and center channel spaekers);
Microphone position has been no problem, but I did find that tilting it ever so slightly (only a couple of degress or so) towards the front of the room obtains a better result (probably less reflections off the back wall);
Running listening position checks several times, while leaving the microphone in the same main listening position, gave me the best overall auto-setup settings (moving the mike to different locations resulted in a sound I will never listen to);
Inputting the same EQ settings into the Manual EQ, as the auto-setup obtains and displays under Flat EQ parameter, gives you a significantly different sound than if you select the Flat setting w/the same values (after having run auto-setup);
Reinitializing the receiver and inputting all settings manually, w/o using auto-setup gives you a different result as well and provides the best sound (my opinion only);
Making a volume change, while viewing component signals upconverted to HDMI/DVI causes the tv screen to flicker temporarily ( HDMI/DVI thru-put does not);
Volume control level speed increase, as volume button is held down, gives you out of control warp speed volume increase (undesireable);
Comcast HD cablebox HDMI/DVI output cannot be passed thru the 4806 (only get flickering screen), however, HDMI/DVI output from Denon 3910 passes thru beatifully;

Despite all this and many other smaller issues, it is a great sounding receiver.
