Duff;
I probably should have a history on us, but let me give you the skinny here.
I started Audioholics sometime back in 98/99 (don't remember exact date believe it or not) as a way to get my hand in the industry as a hobby since most of the engineering jobs were either impossible to get, or too low in wage to consider. Seeing all the marketing BS in this industry go unchallenged for so long really tickled a nerve in me and being an electrical engineer, I just felt compelled to write about it. As you could imagine it wasn't always easy to get manufacturers to send us gear to review, so I had to go out on my own to supportive dealers to review equipment.
I had one guy help develop the site and write occasional editorials, CD/DVD reviews. The site had a slow start, but gained industry support fairly quickly considering, b/c of my anal retentive tendencies of nitpicking products, providing overly detailed feedback to manufacturers, in hopes of them making better gear to build my ultimate dream system
The site remained a hobby site for a few years, but kept gaining momentum, until Clint joined us, redesigned the whole site and helped me bring it to the next level. I am now proud to say we have several full time staff on board (including speaker/acoustics expert Patrick Hart), over $100k in test gear in our lab facilities, and many contractors helping to provide content and assist in business aspects of the company.
This is NOT an easy business to thrive in, especially since most manufacturers are simply looking for flowerly reviews, but we are pleased to be pursuing our dream jobs while also providing a service to the industry we love so much. Most of our thanks go to the readers that support our site and keep our mantra alive.
Thanks to our readers, excellent staff I have assembled, and supportive industry, Audioholics is now the most highly read home theater review publication (print or online) with over 850K+ monthly readers and growing!
