Hi, to make things short for me, I'll copy-paste the email I wrote to Audioengine support:
I bought a pair of Audioengine 5s about 2 years ago. There's a weird phenomenon with them that appeared recently and seems to grow as time passes by. When they've been off for a while (like 12 hours) and I turn them on, a few seconds later the right speaker emits some static noise which sounds like blowing air into a microphone. This was very subtle and I ignored it at the beginning, but now it will do so for several seconds and it's quite jarring. I am wondering if there's anything wrong with it. The speakers otherwise work flawlessly.
Audioengine replied with a list of steps to ensure there's no problem with my cables, configuration, etc. I don't have any spare cable to test, but I'm quite sure this has nothing to do with the cable. It sounds like the amp having a bit of trouble "waking up".
Now since I'm outside the US and thus outside the warranty, I'm trying to see what my options are in case this becomes a serious issue (because it's really minor right now, but it's slowly growing). Would it be possible to mod the speakers so that I could use them with an external amp? I have a good feeling that would fix the problem, + the amp could be used with other speakers eventually.
