Audio problem w/Onkyo 604 & A2 HD-DVD via HDMI

I was trying to watch a couple of HD-DVD's (via HDMI) the other night, but not all of the audio was coming through. My receiver (Onkyo 604) wasn't allowing me to change the audio setup either. It just kept saying Multi-Channel engaged. Has anyone else had this problem or is there a simple solution?

I enjoy having my cable/dvd all feeding into the receiver via HDMI with 1 HDMI going to the tv.

Maybe I'm over simplifying but with most receivers the only way to disengage the MC function is to hit the MC button on the front of the receiver or remote. Pressing any of the soundfield buttons will not work.

Over HDMI I am only able to choose between direct and MC. Both have the same issues.
