Hello! I am new to audio systems and really need help. My current setup is Sony STR-DH790 receiver with Jamo 5.1 speaker setup and one Jamo subwoofer. I currently have connected my surround left and right speakers normally to the AV receiver but my placement for them is behind my couch since my room is so small. Should I connect them as surround back speakers and not have left and right channels at all?

Leave them as sides. When you do not have more than 5.1 setup, it doesn't really matter if they are physically on the side or behind because all the surround info goes to them. I have a 5.1.2 setup and my surrounds are behind.

They are side surrounds. Rears only come into play when you have two additional rear speakers. The correct angles are 110-120 degrees from mlp where possible, with the center speaker being at 0

Actually to really split hairs, side surrounds only come into play with 7.x. In 5.x they’re just surrounds

As J said, leave them how they are. Even if you did connect them to the rear surround terminals, they wouldn’t work unless you had surround/side surrounds hooked up.

I see. Thank you all for replys. I will leave them be as they are connected now.
