Audio lag/lead using tape out to second receiver

Hey! Weird issue here. I ended up solving my own problems. Short story, the "master unit" had a lag set to 50ms that I didn't know about and initially i couldn't find the manual lag options in the settings. found it and putting that to 0 solved this issue!!

If you want to know what the issue was, keep reading. if not stop here.

I'm using component cables going from an Onkyo TX-SR605 to a Yamaha RX-V595. So the Onkyo is essentially the master, and the Yamaha the slave unit. The master audio is lagging behind the slave unit's audio. By fiddling with things, I've noticed if I set the Onkyo equalizer setting to be "direct", then there is no lag between speakers/recievers. When I use any equalizer settings besides "direct" the speakers connected to the Yamaha (slave unit) will lead the audio coming from the Onkyo speakers. I havn't used 'tape out' much in the past as i havn't had a need.

The 'direct" setting does not utilize my center speaker plus the quality isn't great so i'd rather not use it. The lead/lag is very noticeable and ruins the experience.

More info if interested. The Yamaha is powering some semi custom theater chairs that have subwoofers in them. I don't currently have a low pass filter going to the subs, you more get a vibration effect of the chairs. If i used some lowpass filters, the lead/lag i'm assuming would be less noticeable, but i'd like to solve this either way.

ok.... stupid mistakes..... at first i couldn't find the lag settings on the Onkyo (the nicer one). Finally found the settings and fixed the issue.

Hey glad you figured it out altho I'm not sure you've got the best solution so have some questions for you. So, since ya posted and I stopped by and read 'em.....

First, had me confused there when you said component cables which are generally video-only. Composite might be a better word, and assume this was just two channel I rather than multi-channel or are your tape-outs multich on that Onkyo? Why not just use the pre-outs on the Onkyo instead if you want to apply dsp to the signal and use the Yamaha as amp-only (and what inputs on the Yamaha did you use)? I assume tape out is just the L/R signal, not sure why you expected the center channel, too.

Adding dsp in the Onkyo while passing a direct signal via tape out to the Yamaha might explain the lag, tho. You adjusted this with what particularly? Distance/delay controls or lip sync or?

ps Just re-read the bit about direct, yes that would bypass any upmixing as well as you're not outputting a center channel so far....unless you use the pre-out for that....and your Yamaha has an appropriate input for such too.
