Audio from CD player, Video from PS3/xbox

Is it possible to play the audio from a CD player (regular red/white composite cables) while playing video from a game console through a HDMI cable running to the same receiver? I need to mess around with my receiver more to figure this out, but off the top of my head it seems like I should be able to do this, but I'm unsure since only one signal can be selected at a time on my receiver.

Has anyone had experience/failure/success with this sort of thing before?

any input is appreciated.

Do you mean you would like to hear the CD and see the game (effectively not hearing the game) or do you want to hear both and have independant level control on both? Depending on what receiver you have both options may be possible through the use of a feature called "multizone".

Let us know what receiver you have so we can better steer you in the right direction. It's likely that the receiver you own has multizone capability, as many HDMI audio equipped receivers can do. Just to name a few fairly cost effective receivers that do this; Yamaha RX-V663, Onkyo TX-SR606, Pioneer VSX-1018, Denon AVR-1909, Harman Kardon AVR 254, just to name a few.

correct... hear the CD and see the game.
my receiver:

Sony STR-DG720

I apologize for asking initially without and of my home theater info included... It was bugging me at work trying to figure out if people at my apt could listen to a music CD and play cards or whatever while others could still play video games.

thanks again
