audio dropouts during dvd viewing

connected my apex ad3201 dvd to my yammie htr5860 using digital coax connection (using composite video cable, not dig coax specific cable, supposedly the same thing).

getting frequent sub 1 second audio dropouts during viewing.

never had a problem before with same dvd player over analog stereo on old receiver.

any ideas?

When the receiver sees a digital bitstream, it has to determine what type it is and select the correct decoder. Audio dropouts can occur if the stream is interuppted momentarily and then resumes and the receiver has to identify the stream again.

If the connections are secure, the dvd player set to 'bitstream', and the coax digital input on the receiver is assigned correctly, then I would suspect the player is the source of the problem.
