Audio Compressor/Expander

I enjoy TV movies but am tired of sitting with the volume control clutched in hand. We get a scene wherein the characters whisper about their plans (volume up); followed by their crashing through doors screaming blue murder, firing RPG's. (volume down)

Does anyone know of a Audio Compressor/Expander module that can be fitted in line?

By the way, do you remember when background music was just that, and not blaring noise that drowned out the dialogue?

Cheers, Dan

Some receivers have dynamic volume, I believe this should help with issues like this.

What are you using currently? Pics of the arrangement would help, or detailed explanation of distance between front speakers, as well as distance of the speaker to the rear wall.

Midrange cancellations can often be attributed to situations like speakers being set too far from the rear wall.
