audio calibration??

I have arranged to have my new 58" panny to be calibrated. I was asked whether I wanted my audio system calibrated as well. Is this common, and worth it? I have a Denon AVR-888, with a 5.1 speaker set up and Energy speakers(C-C50 centre, Pro 22's as fronts, and C-R100 rears), and a 12 inch Polk Audio sub-woofer. I have used the microphone included with the Denon to set it up, but apparently the technician doesn't think this does much.

The term calibration means adjusting something to an established standard. While you can adjust a TV picture to an established standard, I can't imagine what an audio standard would be since every system and every room differs. If he means adjusting the levels of the various channels then that's important and very simple to do. It is what your receiver does with the little microphone. If he can do it quickly and better than the receiver then that's fine. The only other possible adjustment would be equalization and I wouldn't be too quick to let someone change the frequency response of my system to his preference (since there isn't a standard.) If the equalization were carried out to produce a flat frequency response in your listening room then that would be a pretty time consuming and expensive task, I would imagine. I've done it for two channels, never for 6.
