Audessey and sub cal.... Measure only subs

I was curious in Audessey if it's possible to measure and cal just the subs. Ive gone thru the calibration multiple times and I never noticed before but this time it had me set my subs at different levels. I have a Denon 4400 and when level matching Audessey made 1 sub set the gain to about 35% and the other to almost 45 both from the start at 50% both reading 75db and equal distance from the MLP. Once all was calibrated the distances were equal to each but 1 sub was set to -10.5 and the other to -6.5. Am I able to call just the subs or does the whole process need to be done again. I don't know the subs response as I don't have a mic to use Rew. That's my next move

Also curious is there a different/better/ or anything way to measure subs. I use both sub outputs of the receiver, curious would using 1 output and splitting with a y cable work different/better?

That avr has the ability to handle non equidistant subs with the two sub pre-outs. If you use just one sub pre-out and split to the subs then you're somewhat forced to do the equidistant sub thing. I've never tried running Audyssey on just the subs, doubt it will work. Sounds like results just mirrored the different gain settings. Are you setting level each to 75 dB separately or together?

I have each sub in their respective sub out RCA. Each one I set to 75db thru Audessey level matching. I couldn't find anything that stated or showed you could just measure the subs but I wasn't sure.

Well you are measuring levels....distance would be set by the first mic position. Why do you just want to run Audyssey for the subs, tho?

I might suggest that your subs are set kind of high. Have you rerun Audyssey with the same results? Maybe try turning the gain down lower at the Sub, and manually adjusting for distance in your AVR. Your room could be boosting or diminishing one of your subs too.

One reason to set gain a bit high on the sub and run your sub trim level into the negative range is to allow some room to boost it Headroom of a sort. I usually try and get mine to set just above max negative trim level (-11.5 is fine, since max is -12). I'd guess either the amps aren't quite the same or the room's effect or both....

I manually turned mine down in the avr, on top of having them at roughly 1/4-1/3 gain at the sub. But then again, 2 Outlaw X-13s in a 2000'3 room is a little crazy, Lovin. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't go Dual Rythmik 15s!

What subs? Room dimensions lxwxh? And maybe even a photo of your placements? Lovin's got a lot more XP than I do, but there's only so much advice we can give blindly.

Nah, that sounds about right for a room that size Did you calibrate the sub level or just do it by ear? On my plate amp equipped subs I usually only have to have the gain at 1/4 to 1/3 of the range to set up the level in the negative range. After calibration I tend to boost it a bit (using the sub trim in the avr).

Did it by ear! F' Oddisee! jk... I'm gonna explore Audyssey a little after my surrounds are all in this week. Figured no point to it until I'm actually all set up. *shrugs
But even now, sometimes I feel I'm still a little hot on the subs. Not that I mind, but I really like the surprise kicking in on something like this, after listening to some standard jazz quartet. That said, I'm -3dB through the AVR, might drop it another 2-3 as I experiment more.

Well there's also measurement mics/spl meters You well might be hot on the subs still, hard to know. Have you been Shpongled?

Very cool; thanks for sharing! I've tended to not be a huge electronica guy, but the musicality these cat's are putting into their work is nice.
I've had a few too many friends come back from the playa being-like, "dude-man *shaka, you gotta check this out..." ...Only to be bombarded by the guy who thinks he might be the next skrillex. *sigh. Take the good with the bad, love your friends, and move on.
This, was fun. I'm gonna check out their 2017 offering, Codex VI, just to see how they evolved over 18 years.

Sorry guys was wicked busy over the weekend. Ok so you asked for specs here they are. The room is a dual purpose meaning living / theater so to speak. The room is 11.5x17x7.5. Comes to about 1449 cu ft. My subs are at just shy of half gain so about 40%. Audessey set the trims at -10.5 for sub 1 and -8.5 for sub 2. I turned them up from there 2db each. The subs (don't laugh lol) are old jbl pb10s. Only 150 watts a piece. It feels at certain points they hit hard. You can feel the bass shake the room and your butt. Other times not so much. I know I have a few things going against me....the room as it's not a dedicated room and the setup which is at this point unable to change as well as these subs not being even near the middle of the line.
