I own one of those Athena micra 5 systems (recommended by Audioholics a few years ago as part of a $1,000 system). I was listening to Gordian Knot (vehicle for bassist Sean Malone's music), there are passages where there's only bass, nothing to mask any rattles. I noticed a faint but distracting rattle coming from inside the sub. I tried a few things, but the only thing to make it stop was to put it upside down (it's a down-firing sub). I can't leave it like that since I have kids, but I was wondering if anybody has had similar things happen. I can't rule out the kids shoving something in the front vent (like a lego piece). I've never taken anything like this appart, maybe it's super simple. Thanks.

It can sometimes be hard to tell where the noise is coming from. If you have any doubt move the sub and make sure the rattle is coming from the sub.

Also make sure all screws are tight.

Assuming it is like any other sub, You should be able to unbolt the plate amp or the driver (or both).

Once unbolted, remove with care as the wires may not have enough length to allow you to lift the amp (or driver) completely off. You may need to unplug a terminal to really get the amp (or driver) out of the way, but inspect to make sure they are not soldiered before you force them (they will likely be a tight connection).

It is also possible that you may need to use something to pry off the amp (or driver) as any uncured finish during assembly will essentially act as a (not too strong) glue.

Thanks, I'll try this very carefully. The noise is definitely coming from inside the sub.

Sometimes the screw that holds the wire bundle comes loose and the wires touch the back of the speaker as well.I would open it up and look considering you have a down firing sub.
