I have it hooked up to a pioneer 816 receiver. I have a digital coaxial cord hooking the sub into the receiver, this is the right wire for subs right? Also I have manually messed around with the loudness of the sub and turned it up all the way and still do not get a very large sound from it. I have to knob turned up to 10 as well. Does anyone know why my sub may not be playing very loud, could the amp be broken already even though I just received it two days ago? Any help would be much appreciated.

That cable is fine.

I suggest you become familiar with your new receiver and find, in the manual, the section where it shows you how to adjust the output level to your speakers. Usually, this is done with test tones that eminate in from each speaker in turn and you would set their levels to sound the same. The sub level can be adjusted there as well, at least it works that way on my Denon.
