Athena Micra 6 vs MA B2 AV vs Polk RM20

I'm considering these three for a 18 x 12 room, which has a 7' opening to another large room. Accoustically, probably not a very good room, but it is what it is.

Any thoughts on these three speaker systems? If you recommend one over the other, I'd also be curious as to what receiver you would use.

I'm leaning towards the Monitor Audio B2 AV system, but before I bite the bullet, I'm looking for thoughts from folks who may have more experience in this area than I.

Thanks.

I was recently in the market for a 5.1 system for my new Yamaha HTR 5790. I was leaning towards the Micra 6 due to the favorable reviews here, but then had the Rocket ELT's highly recommended. After further investigation, I thought the ELT's were the way to go. They have a 5.1 system available for $699, but my wife didn't like the Cherry finish. I would've had to go up to $899 for the black finish. Then, I saw Best Buy had the Athena Micra 6 on sale for basically 1/2 price and I simply couldn't pass it up. I hate to say I "settled" on the Micra 6, because I have been happy with what I've heard. This is my first real HT system, so I can't offer much in comparisons to other systems, but so far I like what I hear. At $250, or about 1/4 the delivered price of the ELT's, I didn't think I could go wrong.

My two cents...

Thanks for the reply. What size is the room you have the speakers installed?

We are in the process of building a new house which will have something like a 15' x 18' family room with a 20' ceiling and opening in the back to the kitchen with a regular ceiling. My current house (in which I have only used a very temporary rear speaker set up), is about the same size, but with a vaulted ceiling. I haven't really cranked the system yet, so I can't really tell you much about the limits. I guess I can't contribute much to your decision making other than saying that if cost is a consideration, I would think it's tough to beat the Micra 6 at $250. It got very strong "bang for the buck" ratings at $550...

Hope this helps.

you're conisdering 3 very different systems. the polk's should be less detailed, but warm and inviting. the MAs should be laid back, fairly neutral to warm, musical. the athenas could be slightly harsh, but have nice detail. my opinion would be to go with the MA because they're the only true bookshelf design here. usually this means they'll do well as a system or by themselves.

As for receivers for the MA, Yamaha, Denon, and NAD would be good choices (NAD then Denon my preferences)

have to do this...
go cavaliers!
(oh wait...we already lost)
