hey guys i'm from new Zealand and i own a asp6000 athena sub which packed up awhile ago, anyways i'm looking at replacing the amp inside as ive heard they came out with a problematic bash amp , not as easy to just buy one for me here basically all i have on offer is a 150rms watt amp made by digitech will this run my sub ok ? not as powerful i dont think as the one that blew but importing one from the states is a joke so i gotta take what i'm offered i spose! any ideas or comments would be great! thanks

As long as the sib driver does not have an impedance lower than the digitec amp will drive you should be fine.

The other issue is you could just leave the old plate amp in place and use any decent Hi-Fi amp externally, hooked up to the subwoofer directly. In fact that would be an improvement, as class D plate amps are nothing to write home about.

hey thanks for the idea been looking at external amps and they are far cheaper and theres tons available here, so if i bought a external 2ch amp which says its 160w per channel and crossed them over would that make it 320watt channel ? sorry i dont know much about stereos just guessing ?

You should be able to find a behringer over there that would drive about anything.

You can not connect the tow amp channel together. That would blow it up instantly. You would need an amp that was bridgeable to do that. However the impedance of your woofer is likely too low for bridging, unless you have an amp comfortable driving two ohm loads. Do you know the impedance of your sub driver?

You would crossover from the crossover in your receiver.

i really dont have much to offer here in NZ so all these brands you say i cant find, a friend suggested the idea of a car amp converted to 12v as you can bridge car amps cant you ? just an idea honestly theres nothing much to offer over here gotta take what i can, dont wanna spend tons either so might be a go, what you guys think ? thinking of a 222w sony car amp 2ch ?

Yes, that should be perfect. Here are the full specs.

It provides 480 watts into four ohms. You can set the crossover between 50 and 1000 Hz, so you have the ability to set it in the typical 60 to 80 Hz sub crossover range, or use the crossover on your receiver.

It does not have an auto on so you will need to switch it on each time. Also there is no phasing switch so you will have to see which polarity speaker connection gives you the best output at crossover.

For your location this looks like your best option.

awesome sounds like a go, i didnt realize it has 480w if run on 4ohm that will be nuts, also with the hz could you set it too high and damage something i dont quiet understand what hz means ? old amp went from 40-120hz
