I would appreciate any input on comparison or contrast of these two speakers. Would you favor one over the other?

Thanks!

Comppariing the Rockets with Athenas now are we? Aren't we stooping too low here with this latest comparison?

I thought the Rockets walks all over the place over brands such as Klipsch, B&W, Sonus Faber, Dynaudio, etc. After all, the Rockets ARE the bestest speakers ever made, at any price point.

I hear the sarcasm but being brand new to this forum I'm not sure what to make of it...that is, I've read great reviews of the Rocket ELTs...but are they overrated (or is that what you're getting at?)
Reason I ask is, I just received a new pair of Athena AS-B2.2s in the mail and connected them to my Onkyo TX-SR600 -- replacements for my BIC Venturi 504s (no room for them unfortunately). I am so far not pleased with the Athenas (also not broken in yet) which sound lifeless and baseless. That said, I have a pair of Rocket ELT LRS on order. Given that the woofers are smaller than those of these AS-B2.2s, I'm concerned about whether they will be better for me than these Athenas....

I know it's all subjective...but any thoughts? I am not liking this speaker downgrading thing!

Lifeless and baseless- a lot depends on your expectations.

Consider that both of these are bookshelf speakers and, being a current owner of the first series of Athena B2's, I can most definitely say they do not lack bass in comparison to others in their price/size class. Now, if you compare them to a floorstander, that's another animal.

As far as lifeless goes, I've found them quite pleasing and natural.

Do you mean you want more midrange/high end presense? ... or what?

Hm, I think I would say less midrange, more high end presence (aside from the obvious, more low end). I'm wondering how much of a difference a break-in period will make... and I'm really wondering if the Onix ELTs will sound more pleasing to me despite having smaller drivers... though I realize it's not that simplistic....

If you liked your BIC Venturis, why not try a pair of the Venturi DV62si bookshelves? They have quite a bit of bass for a bookshelf. Also, you can have the crossovers modded by Ed Frias (supposed to fix the brightness of the sound, as well as improve it overall). Additionally, you can order the heavily modified DV62si speakers that Ed has which are an additional step up.

Interesting point is that while I knew I liked the Venturis, I didn't realize how much until I just set up these Athenas days ago. Perhaps it's just an adjustment period on my part...

Let the Athena's break in. My friend has the B1's (order model 5.25inch driver) and he says there's tons of bass. But, he also said it wasn't as tight as my speakers.

I say, let them break in.

re: the Athenas - Yes, even their manual says they need about 40 hours to
get them settled in (see sticky above on discussion of if there is such a thing as Speaker Burn-in);)

re:BICs I just bought a pair of the DV62LCLRss to use in my 2.1, and am quite happy w/ them so far. Lots of ppl rush right out to Ed Frias' mods to "fix it", but I say let them play for a week or two first , then decide.

re:Onix ELTs, they have been discontinued, but are being replaced by the new REF .05s, coming in December, with bigger cabs (gorgeous rosewood)updated crossovers, & slightly different woofer. I have an order in on a pair, can't wait to hear them.
I owned Athena B2 + ASC-1 center & liked them, but found they got trounced
by the Infinity Primus 150/C-25 set up easily, with cleaner mids & highs.
YMMV
