Ascends vs. SVS

Hello All,

Does anyone have any expirence with either the Ascends (cmt-340 r/c/l, cmb170 surr) or the SVS (sts-01 r/l, scs-01 c, sbs-01 surr). They will be used for mainly movies and gaming. Thanks in advance.

I have had Ascends for years (originally classics and now 340SE LCR and 170SE surrounds) and have been very happy with them. I have an SVS sub but no experience with their speakers. Do you have a subwoofer?

I have Ascend 340se's across the front and 170se's for surrounds and I like them very much. Thy are great at moves and music and for gaming they are way overkill.

I also have the SVS MTS's and MCS. There are a step up from what you asked about. I love them for movies. Dialog on them is very clear.

IMO if you're going to use a sub go with bookshelf speakers and save the money.

I think for movies and gaming (with a sub) you would be very happy with either.

It comes down to preference. These speakers are both very good. I give the nod to the MCS but that would stand to reason because of the price. The SVS has a more forgiving tweeter and a laid back midrange compared to the 340se. If you want a more neutral and forward presentation go with the 340se. Remember though...the MCS is a big center channel and the Ascend 340se will fit more ofter than the SVS.

Note:
The Ascend Acoustics 340/170se would compare more directly to the SVS SCS/SBS.
The Ascend Sierra-1 would more directly compare to the SVS MBS-01.

This is what I would do...

If only movies and music I would get the less expensive of the two.
If I want to listen to music I would have to listen to both. Buy a pair of each and compare the two.
