Damn, your systems just keep getting better and better!
How much is the upgrade?
I wonder how many tweeters and crossovers will be out there. They are decent, so I wounder if the DIY guys will come up with a good application for these parts.
Next up a replacement for the PB12-Plus/2.

Probably Q1 or Q2 of next year if I stop buying toys and save some money up.
The introductory price for the upgrade was $150/spkr. I have no idea what the permanent price will be but the tweeter is the same one that Dave is using in the new tower. He claims that it will go toe to toe with the QWT-2 tweeter but play higher (30khz). All I know is it's sweet! The change is subtle, but sweet! Once I install the SMS-1 tomorrow that room is done. No more upgrades, unless I recycle old gear into there.
Ascend is offering 5% off any purchase if you return the old parts within 30 days. I'm not sure it's worth the cost of shipping for me but I really don't want more "stuff" in my storage shed. Plus I wouldn't have a clue what I was doing if I did tackle a project. I started to order a couple of simple
subwoofer kits and then chickened out. I'm just not that knowledgeable about what makes toys work.
I really am tempted to do this upgrade myself, that or sending it to them if I felt lazy. Don't really know the cost difference to be honest at the moment, I don't recall it being clearly laid out on their site last I looked.
I can't swear to it but I think if you send them in you just pay shipping both ways, but that might just have been the introductory group. Honestly unless you have very early Sierra-1s it's so easy that as long as you don't shove a screwdriver though a cone there isn't much to screw up. I'm told some few of the very early Sierras had excess glue get under the crossover but only the earliest. Anyway I did 3 in an hour and that wasn't rushing anything. I'm told that they even have youtube how-to videos.
As I said the change is subtle. The sound is just a bit more forward and there's a bit more detail. I really like the upgrade but just don't expect a night and day difference. When Dave first put me in a room by myself with CDs and an unlabeled A/B switch and unlabeled speakers I started out confused (my normal state in life) and then one pair started sounding better and better to me than the other as I picked up differences and my grin started getting bigger and bigger.
