I have been looking for new set of speakers in the $1500 range
My perfect speaker would be MartinLogan Ribbon but the sweet spot is too small. The feedback is that the sound is ML like in transparency.
The I'D sales has me worried as I prefer to listen before I buy

Any opinion is appreciated

If you want a speaker with a big sweet spot, check out KEF speakers. If you want to listen to some very good ribbon tweeter speakers before you buy, check out local pro-audio places near you and see if they have and Adam monitors on display. Those sound terrific.

I considered both Adam and Kef bookshelf speakers. Kef will allow in house demos of their speakers. I started at the lower end and worked up to the R series which sound great and had the flexibility for placement that I needed. I was going to try some other speakers after I returned the Kef demos, but I ran across a decent deal from someone local. I have really enjoyed the R series so far.

I've got the A5s and they in my room have a great wide soundstage. The imaging in stereo is like its coming from the TV as a "bubble" of sound. I've only listened to the ML motions at a Best Buy/Mag store, I kind of felt they were alittle weak and bright sounding. But that could totally be a setup issue so I don't comment about the MLs that much.

I'd love to hear some Adam's.
But the only connection is Chicago (Milwaukee is my location)

But, I think they are out of my budget
If I can find them I definitely will

Others to listen to for the future: Golden Ear Triton Seven
Martin Logan 40's again

How is the sound? Can you get up and move around(off axis) and the sound does not "die" the the ESL Ribbons?
Or do you need to keep your head in one spot?

I listened to the ML Motions and thought they were a little weak and "flat"

What others did you listen to before you bought? I have a DEF Tech DR-7

The closest to the Ribbon sound I have listened to is Thiel SCS$T (really liked them)

Hey Jeff, Guitar Center carries Adam's, and you have a Guitar Center near you in Brookfield. I would give them a call and see if they have some set up to listen to. The Adam A7s sound great. If you like things loud, also give a listen to the Rokit 10.3s, those are some heavy duty monitors. Another one you should see if they have set up is the JBL LSR6328, they sound terrific, maybe not quite as crisp as the Adams but the soundstage is definitely there. Its worth trying anyway.

Don't think I would want to run studio monitors in a living room. Clinical and bright sounding has been used to describe the KRK speakers, not sure about the Adams but someone on The Audio Insider forum replaced or was going to replace Adam monitors for Arx speakers.

The correct word here is neutral. If you want speakers that color your sound, that is one way to go, but if I want colored sound I would rather just put an effects processor in the signal chain.

You have a 6300cuft (or possibly larger) room... I'd be looking at adding a second sub or a good, powerful sub(s) first

I wouldn't describe the KRK bright at all as the owner of some Rokit6.
