I bought a house in November. It is prewired for sound and the amplifier. For Christmas I was given a Sony surround sound system. I took off the plate behind the amp and there is wire still in its case, no loose ends, just cables of 5 strand.
I don't know what is next, do I cut the cables, hook them into the amp? Do I buy plates with wire connectors, I have no clue. eek:
If I understand you correctly, you took off the wall plate where the receiver is supposed to go and found wires? It sounds like stranded wires by your description but are these strands inside the wire insulation? How many pairs of wire? Any writing on the wire insulating jacket?
Have you located the the boxes where the speakers will be? See how many pairs are there too.
Then, you will have to trace which wire pair goes where, unless they are color coded differently to each speaker box.
In the end, when all is figured out, a wall plate at each speaker location will make it look professional. You should also use plates with speaker cable terminals behind the receiver as well but hopefully that box is a double box as you will not get 5 pair of speaker terminals on a single box.
Oh, yes, please don't use color and fancy lettering
This is a beginning for you.
