Are Yamaha 6490's good for "rock"?

I'm looking for a pair of inexpensive speakers that would sound good with rock/pop and playing movies in a bedroom. No sub will be used (I'm in an apt.). Will the 6490 fit the bill? What about the 333? It's odd that in the "budget bookshelf shootout", the smaller 333 was listed as having lower bass than the larger 6490  Is the 333 built to a higher level than the 6490?

i have the 6490's as my rears. used to have em in the garage, as ROCK speakers. they did ok in the garage. but i replaced em with KLH 12" 3ways, that blew em away.

I imagine big ole floorstanders would sound better but that's not an option. I need either bookshelves or short and narrow towers. What about paradigm titans v.2 vs. 6490 or 333?

A 4" woofer is pretty small, I doubt it will contend with the larger bookshelf speakers for bass which the OP seems to be concerned about.

The NS-333 is a fine looking speaker, and they sound pretty good too. Performance series from Paradigm seems to have been discontinued, so you might find some deals on those. The new SE series speakers are definitely different. The SE-1 start out at $299 a pair.

Edit, SE series is a bit pricey, I guess it's $299 for each speaker. Take a look at the Mini Monitors (monitor is their lowest line in production now)
